Introduction

Pharmacists have an important role in reducing the burden of disease. Treatments and prevention are strongly enhanced by many technology tools available, so pharmacists have to be competent in providing patient care in new ways. It is important to use databases and resources for clear and evidence-based interpretation of diagnosis and treatment, as well as prevention activities. But are we confident enough? What skills and knowledge do we need to be health care professionals today?

Learning objectives

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how use of technology may improve access and quality of services and patient care
  2. Describe new ways of communication in interprofessional collaboration
  3. Explain the difference between technical and cognitive skills in providing patient care
  4. Identify the level of their IT literacy and technology understanding.
